To describe an object and its property one can use adjective + noun pattern.

The most important physical properties of objects include: colour, size, weight, shape, texture, luster, hardness and pattern.

Object properties and adjectives for them

Here are some useful adjectives for each property:

  • Colour: red, orange, yellow, purple, pink, black.

  • Size: tiny, small, big, tall, short, skinny, fat.

  • Weight: light, heavy.

  • Shape: round, rectangular, triangular, square, oval.

  • Texture: bumpy, smooth, pointy, soft, fuzzy, rough.

  • Luster: shiny, sparkly, dull, glossy, pearly, greasy.

  • Hardness: soft, hard.

  • Pattern: striped, polka-dotted, checked, geometric, floral.

Examples

Please, put the yellow t-shirt on tomorrow.

Large boxes will not be brought inside the house.

This shiny case is a perfect match for my mobile phone.
