Past continuous tense + time period in the past pattern

Created:20 Nov 2020 14:45:00 , in  intermediate

Past continuous tense is frequently used in English language to describe a completed action, which continued over a well-defined period of time (a year, a week, a hour, an afternoon etc.) in the past.

Hence, the pattern is: past continuous tense + time period.

Examples

Ann was living in Paris in 2017.

It was raining unusually hard last month.

Greg was fishing all day long yesterday, but brought no fish home.

My arm was hurting badly in the first two hours after the car accident.
